QUEEN ELIZABETH II dies at

QUEEN  ELIZABETH II, who ruled the United Kingdom for seven decades, had the longest reign of any British monarch. SHE PASSED AWAY at the age of 96. Royal family sources reported that the queen "died peacefully" on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle, her home in the Scottish Highlands.

She was the first British monarch to whom people from all over the world could feel a personal and immediate connection, whether they heard her on the radio as a young princess speaking to the children of the United Kingdom, or gathered in front of their televisions for her coronation, or watched her final Christmas speech or her platinum jubilee on their phones.

Officially, the palace has only stated that the queen has experienced "episodic movement issues," without providing any other information. In October 2021, she spent an unplanned night in a hospital in the heart of London and was given the go-slow signal.

Royal family: Queen Elizabeth II passed away "peacefully."

At 6:30 p.m. local time, the royal family released a statement saying, "The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon" (1:30 p.m. ET).
